A4C leaders Besigye, Mpuuga, Lukwago, Nabillah Sempala, Ssemuju Nganda arrested

UPDATE: New details emerging
indicate that the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, A4-C Coordinator, Mathias
Mpuuga, FDC press secretary, Wafula Oguttu, Kyadondo east MP, Ibrahim
Ssemuju Nganda, Kampala Woman MP, Ms Nabillah Nagayi Sempala and a
Makerere University student, Jessy Nuwagaba are being held at Jinja road
police station.
The leader of opposition, Nandala
Mafabi and the Bugweri MP, Abdu Katuntu have stationed themselves
outside the police station waiting to see the arrested legislators.
Meanwhile former Army commander,
Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu and Kasilo MP, Elijah Okupa have reached Kiira
Road to visit Dr Besigye who was in police cells at Kiira Road police
Station.
He was arrested with Mr Mpuuga
and Lukwaga as they tried to walk to Katwe grounds where they were
supposed to address a rally as part of the third round of walk-to-work.
Members of Action for
Change including the FDC president, Dr Kizza Besigye have been arrested
and driven by police to unknown destination as they tried to walk out of
Inter-party cooperation offices on Katonga road, Nakasero.
Police first fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds that had started gathering near the Katonga Road office.
The opposition politicians were planning to hold a rally at Katwe grounds as part of third- round of walk-to-work protests.
Dr Besigye was pushed and driven in a police van
while the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago and the Coordinator of A4-C, Mr
Mathias Mpuuga hauled in police bus.
Dr Besigye is now being held at Kiira Road Police station but it’s not clear where Lukwago and Mpuuga have been taken.
Earlier, Nabilah Sempala was briefly detained by
police after beating heavy deployment around her home and drove off to
the City Centre. She was part of a number of opposition figures whose
homes were surrounded by the police ahead of the third round of
walk-to-work protests.
Police are heavily deployed in and around Katwe grounds to stop A4-C members from accessing the venue.
