Move To Impeach Museveni For Failing Economy Unveiled

Two opposition Members of Parliament are now moving to get President Yoweri Museveni impeached by Parliament for what they call economic crimes that have led to the current financial hardships in the country.
Aruu County MP, Odonga Otto and Rubaga South MP, John Ken Lukyamuzi, on Thursday started a process that they themselves know will not bear success but which they say will make a statement of strong purpose in the fight against corruption.
At a press conference in Parliament, Lukyamuzi said they were moving to impeach the president under Article 107 (1) (b) (ii) of the Constitution which provides that the president can be removed from office on grounds of misconduct or misbehaviour, that he or she has conducted himself or herself in a manner which brings or is likely to bring the office of President into hatred, ridicule, contempt, or disrepute.
The provision goes ahead to say that a president under the Ugandan constitution may also be removed from office by parliament if he or she has dishonestly done any act or omission which is prejudicial or inimical to the economy or security of Uganda.
The two MPs said that they are waiting for their NRM colleagues and other MPs on recess to return to the house and start collecting their signatures.
They laid out some of the grounds for impeachment as the giving away of huge amounts of money to businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba, using the foreign reserves to buy fighter jets and printing extra currency to run the economy.
